Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Structural Design Engineer for a market leader in insurance services. They are based in Birkenhead but flexibility will be required in regards to travelling UK wide. We require applicants with in depth knowledge of the Structural Design codes and standards including Building Regulation Approved Document A (Structure) and other relevant construction standards.

We are looking for an experienced Structural Design Engineer for a market leader in insurance services. They are based in Birkenhead but flexibility will be required in regards to travelling UK wide. We require applicants with in depth knowledge of the Structural Design codes and standards including Building Regulation Approved Document A (Structure) and other relevant construction standards.


Job Purpose

To provide Structural Design checking and advice to the surveying teams and the technical/claims department in connection with the approval and risk management of residential and commercial projects under the Building Regulations and warranty technical standards.

Overview of Responsibilities

Duties of the post include, but are not limited to:

*Reviewing and checking the full range of ground investigation & geotechnical reports, design solutions, structural calculations and certification for schemes submitted for Building Control Approval and Warranty registration.

*Reviewing and checking the structural aspects of the full range of building and construction types, including design solutions, structural calculations and certification for schemes submitted for Building Control Approval and Warranty registration.

*Provide on site support and advice as & when required.

*Effectively self manage, by forward planning the workload, to provide a responsive, helpful and professional service.

*Recording comments, recommendations and reports on the data base and communicating comments to surveyors and customers.

*Provide advice on Product Assessments submitted for approval.

*Ongoing liaison with surveyors on structural matters - must ensure that standards are being maintained and procedures adhered to.

*Ongoing liaison with developers/clients - offer structural advice and guidance.

*Provide in house training to surveyors on structural design matters.

*Contribute to the production, updating and amendment of the Technical Manual.

*Undertake high risk and complex work, including commercial BC with minimum supervision.

*Gives claims advice and guidance on structural matters.

*Undertake any other duties as reasonably required.

Experience And Skills Required

-Qualified Chartered Structural Engineer registered with the Engineering Council and a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers or similar for at least 5 years.

-5 years + post qualification relevant experience.

-In depth knowledge of the Structural Design codes and standards including Building Regulation Approved Document A (Structure) and other relevant construction standards.

-Requires a good understanding of general insurance principals and terminology desirable.

-Ability to undertake site inspections to assess both quality and the cause/effect of building defects.

-Commercial awareness and ability to work as part of a team.

-Ability to create not only good working relationships with other construction professionals but to be able to deal effectively with members of the public.

-The ability to meet deadlines and manage own workload within agreed parameters.

-Working knowledge of MS Outlook (email), MS Word, MS Excel together with knowledge and experience of electronic methods of access and viewing architectural and design information

-Demonstrable ability to use own initiative.

-Ability to motivate self and influence others.

-Good customer service skills and relationship management.

-Good Communications skills.

-Good risk and time management skills to cope with a heavy work load.

-Flexible in personal approach.

This is a permanent role paying 40k to 45k + benefits.
