We are currently looking to recruit a cost manager, for our client, a leading construction and civil engineer organisation in the UK. Offering up to 50K + Car + benefits, the role will be based in Cheadle. We are looking to speak with candidates that have experience in costing major projects across the construction and engineer industry, with a good solid method of costing and accounting methods.

Job Description

Based at Cheadle and working within bespoke bid teams, the individual will be responsible for delivering competitive construction cost solutions from preconstruction budget advice through to first principle costing. Project values can range from £10m - £250m+ across all market sectors and contract types.
Ideally the candidate should be conversant with Causeway estimating software although training will be given to the successful candidate.

Accountabilities:

- Manage the workload and allocation of Cost Management resource within assigned bid teams
- Oversee and Interrogate design options and 'value' solutions, identifying the attractiveness of a project based on sound costing principles. Undertake the role of Cost Manager on large or complex projects where required. Activities to include:
- Ensuring compliance with company procedures including pre-construction gate process
- To review tender documents and submission requirements ensuring all financial information is identified and provided
- Establish and agree key plant rates
- Agree with engineering and planning key methods, outputs and plant selection
- Detailed analysis of subcontractors analysis
- Manage and coordinate the preparation of preliminary and general expense pricing including plant schedules
- Carry out any belated adjustments as a result of tender settlements
- Provide bills of allowances as part of the commercial handover meeting
- Responsibility for 'sign off' of all cost elements prior to any gate meetings or financial submissions
- Selecting suitable sub-contractors and specialists for each project
- Ensuring that key specialists are utilised on each bid to optimise: design, specification, programme and value
- Managing the production of cost information for senior management
- Provide considered responses to client questions including post tender queries
- Ensure that the project commercial team have received an effective handover of bid documentation
- Present tender proposals at client interviews
- Provide mentoring on bids to Cost Managers and the bid team
- Maintain the company supply chain database with tender information from allocated bids

Requirements
Personal Qualities and Experience:

Individuals must have previous experience of costing major projects (see financial dimensions) within the construction and engineering industry.
Good working knowledge of costing and accounting methods is required. Professional membership with the RICS/CIOB/RIBA/ICE is desirable and a valid CSCS card is a requirement.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners under time pressure.
The individual should have a desire to continuously pursue innovation and development, with a focus on the customer and the Major Projects business. Proficiency in IT, numeracy and MS Office Basic & Conquest/Candy Estimating Systems or similar packages are essential.
