The opportunity

This is an ideal opportunity for an operations manager, with previous experience of working at heights, to join a large SME. The role

The role of the operations manager will involve managing/leading 25-30 engineers who are specialised in working at heights. Your main responsibility will be to increase production and motivation within the teams and introduce new processes and procedures to ensure continued improvement within in performance. You will complete appraisals of engineers on a regular basis so each member of the team understands what is expected from them and on occasions take a prominent role in any disciplinary or grievance procedures.
You will be responsible for reviewing action plans for projects prior to the commencement of work and will be expected that agreed client targets are met and exceeded. You will keep in close contact with engineers to understand hoe projects are progressing and provide leadership and guidance when problems and delays occur. You will play a leading role in ensuring H&S compilation and checking of RAMS, issue and attendance of TBTs, audit of site safety standards.
This role will involve overnight stays on occasions and you will be expected to complete site visits to check on the safety, quality and progress of site works.

The candidate

The ideal candidate for this role will be a natural leader with excellent man manager skills who is always focused on driving performance and increasing productivity. Candidates for this role will need to have strong and assertive characters but also possess a good level of charisma and diplomacy. Candidates should ideally have worked in an operations manager's role previously and have had responsibility for a number of engineers working at heights. We are looking for managers who earn respect from their teams and understand how to motivate and influence engineers completing work with a high degree of danger. The ideal candidate for this role will have previous working at heights experience this may come from a telecoms, construction, mobile, scaffolding, rigging, steeplejack background or any industry which involves a high degree of climbing activity.
It has been suggested this role may suit someone who has previously served in the armed forces, so anyone with a military background is strongly encouraged to apply.
We are looking for candidates who are able to bring in fresh ideas as well as introducing and adapting processes and procedures to ensure performance continues to progress.
We are looking for candidates who have commercial experience and have had a good deal of exposure to P&L and understand the need to make each job return a profit.
Candidates will need to be organised and computer literate and have experience of report writing.
This role will involve some overnight stays so we are looking for candidates who are flexible in this regard. It is essential for this role that you are able to drive.
