Contracts manager (Civil, Utilities, network build)

£60000 + benefits.

Overview.

Once upon a time there was a company who wanted to ensure everyone in the UK had access to high speed broadband. The company started small but slowly grew into a leading tech ISP who utilised a large workforce force of civil's subcontractors to build their expanding network. Not all the subcontractors were abiding to the terms of the contracts and this was causing issues with quality and delivery.

What could the company do?

They needed to find a brave and strong commercial contracts manager to carry out KPI's reporting on the subcontractors to improve performance or find new and improved suppliers to take their place.

Story telling aside the company we represent has a very large order book that needs to be delivered and is forecasting increasingly high demand of its services. This is a really important and progressive role within a company that continues to grow and outperform its rivals.

Reporting into the Head of Delivery, you, the new contract manager will take charge of all, procurement, cost control, subcontractor management and contract negotiations.

Responsibilities

Your key responsibility will be to become a respected and trusted member of the delivery team. Supported by the head of delivery you will be responsible for ensuring the negotiated contracts highlight the need for quality, and minimise risk and are abided to by all the subcontractors who sign them. You will assist with input into business cases and project budgets and liaise with project managers about options for subcontractor support.

You will assist the team in identifying and sourcing subcontractor/material suppliers, and then negotiating the best possible terms for the business. Working alongside the team to help ensure that all of the subcontractors have the necessary materials to complete the tasks requested of them, and monitoring their performance through KPI reporting. You will monitor the weekly and monthly cost of the subcontractors and the materials they use to ensure waste is minimal. You will monitor the levels of labour on site and deal with any disputes relating to contract issues and delivery of projects.
You will take a lead in ensuring that the subcontractors adhere to the terms of the contracts they have signed by measuring there performance through a range of KPI's existing and newly created. Some of the subcontractors are trying their upmost to achieve the goals of the company but need increased support and guidance which you will provide when necessary.

Your strengths are your communication skills and your ability to influence others. . You will have been involved with procurement, cost control, contract management and subcontractor management.

We hope you are a contracts manager from a Civils build, network build, utilities or telecoms in the ground background with ideally with some basic CDM knowledge. Maybe you have previously worked in and around QS or be chartered by any of the following bodies RICS, CIOB, ICES.

Degree educated great!

Or just real solid exposure to the industry even better!

We would like to meet contract managers who has previously dealt with large numbers of subcontractors in seriously fast paced environment. You will have real solid understanding of how contracts are put together, the problems that can occur and how they are prevented. You will have a keen eye for detail, be good with numbers, and always be trying to negotiate the best possible terms of business. Comfortable on site in an office, or speaking with a technician or a director.
