Your new position:
The FTTP/FTTH Network Designer role will involve working from the office based in Oxford where you will be responsible for assisting with the planning and design of complex fibre network infrastructure for rural areas based around the UK. You will be planning where fibre will be laid in the ground taking into account any wayleave issues or obstructions that could prevent the smooth running of the installs.
The FTTP/FTTH Network Designer will provide advice and guidance to commercial and project teams to meet project requirements.
You will be responsible for ensuring accuracy of asset information (planned fibre networks and plant protection information). You will ensure quality of captured as-built information.
Duties
*Produce designs and handover info for community areas
*Act as POC for all design activity for allocated tasks
*Liaise with all parties for handovers to ensure smooth transition of a project between the design and delivery phases
*Fully manage version control of design output documentation on the relevant file management systems shared with contractors ensuring that sensitive information is stored and dealt with in a diligent manner
*Collating and maintaining accurate costing sheets, bill of quantities and bill of materials
*Production of straight line diagrams, splicing schedules and other design documents
*Completion of health and safety risk identification sheet, ensuring CDM principle designer responsibilities are fulfilled
*Interpreting output from mobile mapping surveys (point cloud data and LIDAR scans) then accurately utilising these data sources in the design process in order to produce accurate designs
*Using other reference sources and datasets (i.e. SSSI, MAGIC map, roadworks.org) to ensure the final design mitigates all identifiable risks
*Highlights areas of potential cost savings by wayleave identification/land ownership and pass on information to required stakeholders in a timely manner
*Determine siting of new gateway and access cabinets, with consideration to engineering requirements, safety and permissions from necessary
*Carrying out site surveys as and when instructed
*Scrutinise output from automated high level design and ensuring accuracy of final detailed design
*Use a range of GIS software, predominantly QGIS and associated design tools
*Use internal applications such as Salesforce and MarketIQ to obtain and interrogate property data
*Ensure that all actions required from principal designer are carried out as needed for the CDM/Construction Phase Plan
*Manage own request for change queue and proactively complete all cost assessment and change implementation requests within SLAs
*Complete re-costings of designs based on updated requirements, routes or contractor rates
*Take full responsibility for reporting personal productivity and contributing to weekly team reporting
*Produce evidence for tracking against annual performance objectives in line with development plan for discussion with line manager at monthly and quarterly reviews

The Candidate
The most suitable candidates for this will have previously worked in a fibre network planning position for the likes of BT, Virgin Media, City Fibre, Cable & Wireless, KCOM, Thus or Colt for example.
Candidates will need a knowledge of NRSWA and CDM and ideally experience working with GIS software.
What we would ideally like you to know:
*Fibre Network architecture - ideally FTTP/FTTH
*Full understanding of fibre networks
*Detailed understanding of all aspects of civils route planning using different methodologies
*Knowledge of narrow trenching is desirable
*FTTP/FTTH plant and network apparatus
*Ability to identify engineering risks and associated solutions
*Ability to plan, fit for construction, external and internal networks
*Knowledge of GIS software (ideally CadCorp and GE Smallworld)
*Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
*Knowledge and understanding of NRSWA
*Wayleaves and common processes knowledge
*Land registry
*FTTP/FTTH Network builds and blown fibre/cable desirable
*Knowledge and understanding of CDM
*Experience working in telecommunications in an infrastructure planning capacity
