Job Description

Senior field engineer
Midlands/South East

£28K to £36K + £180 call rota & overtime 1/3 Mon-to Fri 1/2 Sat double Sunday. Car allowance, V Good pension, private health/ life insurance 25 days holiday + 8 bank holidays.


The Role

In this role you will be required to provide automation and control systems engineering to a variety of customers based in the South east or Midlands and on rare occasions other parts of the UK. You will be responsible for installations, upgrades, maintenance, repair, fault finding on automation and control systems. After a full and complete training process including shadowing a time served company engineer you will be responsible for supervising and mentoring a number of junior engineers when called upon. The role will require you to assist with designs of new solutions in regards to customer requirements, this will include the development of software related to PLC's, HMI's, and SCADA. You will be expected to have health & safety at the forefront of your mind at all times, and be experienced in conducting risk assessments and method statements. Once up to speed you will be required to participate in the full lifecycle of projects the client company wishes to complete. You will be required to document all of the client's requests to enable solutions to be designed that fulfil the requirements. You will be required to use your technical knowledge to assist the bid teams to formulate proposals to win new contracts. You will need good communication skills in this role as you will be the face of the company when visiting clients on site. There is an on call Rota with this role and you will be expected to provide telephone and on site assistance 1 week in four.
The company offers a range of maintenance contracts in regards to their solutions and suggesting alternative equipment of maintenance plans is rewarded with further bonuses. On occasions when the operations managers are away you will be required to cover for in their absence.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role will be a time served control and automation engineer who wishes to join a company which actively looks to train and develop there engineers. We are looking for engineers who have practical knowledge of service engineering with Control and Automation equipment. Ideally you will be degree qualified/HND in electrical/electronic engineering but equivalent experience and a HNC or C&G will be fine as this is the makeup of some of the existing team. You should have practical experience of the programming PLC's and/or HMI's and/or SCADA systems. You will ideally have ideally have a good working knowledge of electrical installations standards such as a 17th edition. We are looking for engineers who are able to fault find on complex control and automation equipment. Candidates should have strong communication skills and a good awareness of H&S and ideally have a site safety certification.
Candidates should be motivated and enjoy supervising other junior engineers. You will need to be computer literate and have good Microsoft office skills.

The Package

This role comes with a salary of £28-£36K with an on call rota payment of £180 per week. There is a significant amount of overtime attached to this role and most engineers earn £40K+. Overtime is paid after a 37.5 hour week and the rates are paid at 1 ½ Mon to Fri, 1 ½ on Sats and double time on Sundays. The role comes with a car allowance, company pension, private health, bonuses, 25 days holidays + bank holidays.
