The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Mechanically biased Project Manager to work for our client who are a specialist in M&E commercial, design, build and maintenance including Electrical fit outs, HVAC, A/C, CCTV, Access Control, Fire and Refrigeration predominantly within the retail sector. They are well established as a market leader with over 22 years in developing accounts, where their main account is the Cooperative Supermarkets, as well as smaller retail outlets and the Gym Group. The majority of these contracts they have had for over 10 years on receive the jobs on a portal with a pre agreed schedule of rates determining the cost of the job.

For your experience they provide and excellent package which includes a strong base salary plus an executive vehicle of your choosing (Mercedes, BMW, Audi type) the role is field based probably 3 days per week with 2 days spent working in their nice Castleford based offices. You'll cover projects based Uk wide, so will be prepared to travel, its however unlikely you will require to stay away from home, however, if on occasion you have an early meeting the company will put you up in a hotel.

Background wise, you'll be either a Project Manager or experienced Contracts Manager used to working on retail fit out projects for supermarkets or convenience stores.

The Role

As a Project Manager you will be responsible for overseeing projects which involve the installation of HVAC, Electrical rewires, A/C, CCTV, Access Control and Fire Alarms and Systems on average 4 week jobs for the Cooperative Group's Retail Outlets and convenience stores. Work is already scheduled in the diary until the end of Q1 2018. All the work is completed on a pre agreed schedule of rates, and project values range from £25k - 100k+. You'll be managing probably 2-4 projects simultaneously at any one time and will have on average 5/6 members of the team on site including a site manager at any one time. You'll speak directly to the site manager should there be any issues. Our client have 50/60 tradespeople who they use, the majority of which are perm and some of which are subbies but have worked pretty much none stop for our client for the past 2/3 years. So experience managing sub-contractors would be ideal.

You'll handle the whole project from the initial scope meeting, through completion of schedule of rates, pre start meeting, and then manage the job and completion of work (working above a site manager), followed by the completion handover and completion of final account. The nature of the role being nationwide can mean you work long days including travel with 50 hour weeks not being uncommon, so it's a role for someone with plenty energy and who enjoys throwing themselves into work. During a 4 week project, 1 week will be nights based work for the tradespeople so it's not uncommon to get calls late at night or early in the morning for that week, you however will just work Monday - Friday days based permanently. Occasionally you will be required to use other sub-contractors for installations, so we will be looking for someone with previous experience in sub-contractor management. The PM will have some flexibility to work for home, but the majority of their existing 6/7 PM's tend to work on site in Castleford 2 days per week on average, as that's where there back office support, buys, Directors etc are based. You'll get a choice of company car, as it's not uncommon to do plenty of miles on the road in this role and you'll also be given a company VISA credit card for all expenses.

Our client have held this contract for over 10 years and have a brilliant reputation for delivery, customer service and a long standing relationship with a lot of the PM's for the client. They regularly complete 100+ refits on this account alone per year on a rolling program and as a company turnover well in excess of £10m.

The Candidate

The ideal Project Manager will have a hands on background mechanically, with a background in retail refits ideally within Supermarkets or similar convenience stores. This is a role for a full blown Project Manager, managing small to medium size projects, so we would be looking to see previous examples of projects managed and clients worked with. This isn't a job for an engineer as we need someone to hit the ground running and jump straight into managing projects. If you have worked as a Senior Contracts Manager or are a Contracts Manager with the ideal background we can certainly consider you.
