The Opportunity

Our client is a FTSE 100 manufacturer working within the medical device industry, with multiple worldwide production facilities. The company culture is one that heavily utilizes the Continuous Improvement model and requires a new member of the Continuous Improvement Engineering Team.

This is a senior role within their site in Deeside and will report into the CI Manager Joy. This role isn't a hands on engineering role, but is looking for someone who works as a Lead Engineer or Maintenance Engineer but has involvement in projects to improve some or all of the following quantifiable improvements you would be ideal: changeover reduction, maintenance schedules, productivity, wastage, variability in products. These improvement projects will need to be in a manufacturing environment to be relevant to this role.

The role is brand new and will be a major asset to the team during an exciting period of multi-million pound production process expansion investment. This will be a great time to join a company riding the crest of the wave at the moment, in late 2016 they became FTSE 100 and have been investing millions in both of their UK production sites in recent months leading to headcount increases on both sites and also new business units being added to both sites.

The plant is a fast paced production facility producing the medical devices. It's similar in some ways to FMCG, Food or packaging fast paced production environments. The company follow a Kaizen CI process improvement model so if you're not fully knowledgeable on this you'll get trained in this. In terms of industry experience ideally you will have come from a fast paced production environment, such as medical devices, pharmaceutical, FMCG or Food and Beverage industry.

The site contains around 550 employees and are currently in the process of adding a number of new production areas and processes in the coming months taking them from maybe 33 lines towards 40+ lines by the end of August all going well.

The Role

You'll come with experience leading process improvements from a hands on engineering basis, you may be doing this on the side while you do maintenance or have more of an active role in this daily. The client needs 'dooers' not people who sit back and manage people executing improvement projects, you'll need to enjoy being hands on. This role is based around fast paced production on multiple lines including packaging lines and clean rooms. If you enjoy coming up with solutions and ideas that help the improving of manufacturing/production processes, making them more efficient or saving budget, or improving quality this would be an ideal role for you. You'll also get the chance to take real ownership of this role and progress within an expanding FTSE 100 company, which not many roles can offer. The company also offer a transparent opportunity to move onwards and upwards within the business, which is a big sell of the role.

If you have strong experience on measurable/quantifiable process/manufacturing improvements, which have saved, time, money or increased productivity or efficiency please apply.

You'll be expected to help lead the trial of new material, introduction new products and manufacturing lines and equipment. Last year the company introduced production of 22 new products to the Uk so new processes and products are needed all the time. You'll be used to looking into plant performance and how you can maximize the output and provide associated cost savings within a fast paced manufacturing environment.

Aside from your specific project, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the overall company processes, to help reduce process variability, and help key overall business projects and ensure compliance and regulations are being kept company wide. Part of the position will also involve working with both internal and external vendors, H&S, suppliers and legal and regulatory bodies.

The Candidate

First of all you will have a desire to work for a FTSE 100 company and add value. You will have engineering experience on process/manufacturing or production improvements in a pharmaceutical, medical devices, FMCG, packaging or Food industry. You'll be fully versed in Continuous Improvement and may be Six Sigma/LEAN trained and ready to apply these principles to this environment.

You'll be a firm believer in making a difference, as the products this company manufacture make a real different in the industry they are supplied into, in many cases they are life changing and saving. If you feel you have the passion and drive for a role of this nature please feel free to apply.

Qualifications

Degree or equivalent vocational qualification within a engineering or related discipline
Experience implementing continuous improvement methodologies, such as changeover reduction, 5S and visual management
Lean or 6 sigma Green Belt/LEAN or equivalent trained or equivalent would be an advantage
