Opportunity

An excellent opportunity to work for a global business founded nearly 90 years ago. A global company with plants in 22 different counties, and a growing client base and over 25k employees.. Does the opportunity to work for a sustainable well regarded business with widespread investment in both its technology and people across the site interest you? We're looking for someone who wants to work in a fast paced 24/7 production manufacturing environment, the role is looking for someone who is multiskilled, with electrical bias, who wants to work as part of a busy maintenance team on an industrial manufacturing site. You'll be working on a variety of equipment probably looking at a 70/80% electrical bias and 20/30% mechanical work.

The Role

You'll report into the Plant Maintenance Supervisor on site, and will work within the maintenance team on your shift. Naturally you will be electrically biased, and will be liaising with members of the process and service departments to fix issues as and when they occur. Naturally downtime must be kept to a minimum and below the target parameters set and therefore you'll complete a tight PPM schedule and also work on a reactive basis as issues occur. The company has a really good record for long serving staff, who all work in quite a union based working environment, so you'll have a great support network alongside your fellow colleagues. We really need someone who has worked within a manufacturing environment previously due to the nature of how industrial this manufacturing process is.

On the electrical side, you'll use PLC's to diagnose faults and then repair these yourself, these might be sensor issues, heaters, e stops, servo systems, motors, inverters, control panels etc. On the electrical side naturally you'll have exposure dealing with conveyors, rollers, pneumatics and hydraulics. The process is pretty automated and very fast paced, the company produce 5m products worldwide every hour. Naturally the production line is very serious on health and safety, the products they produce are produced at extreme heat and fired into moulds so parts of the production line can be hot and humid. You'll have some familiarity ideally dealing with PLC's do a fault finding level, anything more complex than this and naturally the manufacturer will come in and take a further look.

The role does have real scope for development, both in your personal knowledge but also in the position. Ideally you'll be someone to bring in some fresh ideas, an engineer who can think outside the box and will have opportunities to process into a Team Leader or Engineering Supervisors position if you show the right credentials and the opportunity arises.

The Shift Cover

This is a predominantly days based role 7.30 - 4.30 Mon - Thurs and 7.30 - 3.30 on a Friday making up 39 hours total. You will also be expected to cover the 4 shift engineers when they go on holiday, they work a traditional 4 on 4 off system, 12 hour shifts meaning for up to a third of the year you may find yourself working nights and weekends occasionally. For the other ¾ of the year you'll cover your normal Monday - Friday days based role, so there needs to be some flexibility on your part. Shift cover will begin after you have successfully completed your initial 3 months training period with the business.

The Company

An award winning global business with multiple sites spread across 3 continents. The business are the leading worldwide manufacturer of glass packaging for a range of clients in over 100 countries worldwide. They turnover well excess of $5bn annually and have an ever growing workforce and plants across the planet. The company are fully committed to looking after their staff with wellbeing programs, excellent pensions and holiday and condition payments for working in certain hot or dirty parts of the plant. As a company they are committed to personal development and offer really stable working foundations for people to develop their careers and skillsets into more senior roles in time.

The Candidate

You'll be someone with new ideas, and a spark and energy about you, you'll have a degree of flexibility, as the role although predominantly days based Monday to Friday, does require shift cover for around 1/3 or the year. You'll like the idea of working for the true world's leader in glass packaging and will enjoy the benefits to boot. You'll right away get 3months intensive training and development to get you up to speed with their massive industrial plant. Background wise if you have worked in fast paced manufacturing such as FMCG, packaging, food or even automotive we would be very interested, but similar neighbouring industries might also be great if there are enough transferrable skills. You'll naturally want to take a step up to work for the leading employer in the sector. Technically you'll want to test yourself and learn new things, and will be working for a company where you could truly have a job for life. You'll be strong electrically and have decent mechanical understanding, probably with a 60/40 70/30 or even 80/20 bias on the electrical side. You won't mind working in a sometimes warm and stuffy environment and will be really interested in learning the technology of a world leading manufacturer.
