The Opportunity

A wonderful opportunity to work for a global manufacturing specialist in energy management products, voted on of the top 25 companies to work for worldwide. A multibillion pound company who are keen believers in safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable energy. This is a senior role within their expanding Leeds plant at a really exciting and transitional time for the business and this site in particular.

This role is one of the most senior on site, and you'll be directly line managing around 10-15 direct reports and will have indirectly easily 100+ people within the hierarchy underneath you. This is a predominantly assembly based production site, with a small amount of manufacturing also done on site, with at full capacity over 500 people on site daily.

If you're background involves overseeing a production/assembly based environment, which utilises lean 6 sigma methodology then this role might be of interest. This is a role with real opportunity for progression, which is essentially why the role has come about with the current manager in the process of being promoted to elsewhere in the business.

The Role:

You're role will be predominantly as a people manager, you will have a really high performing team around you who will require your experience in the form of direction and development. Naturally the site has KPI's which need to be hit, these relate to labour productivity, and the developing of the people around you, so someone who is a really strong leader and manages through his team. A real challenge of this role is avoiding the temptation to try and get too hands on, so someone who can utilise the knowledge in those around them and input systems and development strategies to coach those around you would be a real benefit.

This role sits above 6/7 process managers who manage the production processes on the shop floor, they in turn have each 3/4 team leaders (supervisors) who report into them and in turn teams of hands on operatives. You'll also have the Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager, QC Manager and Production Manager who will be within your team and each have teams below themselves as well. This is a £100m turnover plant every year, and is by 2020 going to be extended further, so this will also increase your remit and responsibility on site.

There are currently some solid processes in place within the facility but it's by no means the finished article, the incoming Operations Manager will have the support of the outgoing Operations Manager who is moving into managing the Project for the extension of the facility. If you have a background in CI, 6Sigma, Lean, kaizen/VSM/process flow and have a solid background ideally in some kind of electrical assembly, whether this be white goods, electrical distribution equipment, automotive, electronics or oil and gas we can consider this.

Responsibilities:

Your main responsibilities are ensuring you meet your deliverables, which in this role are pretty much all labour productivity based as opposed to materials. You'll come from an environment where you have developed people/coached/mentored those around you. As I mention before, this is a highly intelligent, well qualified team, but we need someone to provide new ideas, new processes and develop the facility further.

You'll ideally come from an engineering background, the process here is electrical assembly so a background electrically would be a natural advantage, strong manufacturing/operations background would also work. This role is a high complexity low volume manufacturing role, so getting the most out of the processes, both in terms of assembly but also the internal company processes is really key. This site manages everything from initial bid and tender, through design, production planning and then assembly and delivery to site, another area of the business will then handle install and aftercare.

If you like the sound of what you hear regarding this opportunity then please feel free to hit apply.

Experience:

-Degree or high level qualification in Engineering (Electrical, Automotive, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Operations Management)
-Experience in development of Lean Processes, CI, 6 Sigma
-Experience working within a manufacturing/assembly environment
