Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Newport (Abercarn)
Shift based Mon - Fri 37.5hours
£30650 - 34000 inc overtime + great pension, 25 days holiday + 8 bank hols, profit related bonus, safety champion awards

You'll get to work across the site on a range of different lines and production machinery covering the majority of mechanical faults and completing basic electrical tasks, you'll be working alongside a trained electrical engineer who will cover the majority and develop you further in that area, and will join 5 other engineers in the team.
The Role
You'll be one of the reactive engineers on site, a range of different lines on site, working as the first point of call for maintenance. You'll work covering, maintenance, faults, and reactive repair work and will require you to run a tight PPM schedule and suggest improvements, as downtime obviously has large knock on effects to the rest of the business. You'll have some familiarity ideally dealing manufacturing machinery in a plant environment and won't mind working on shift. You'll help contribute to the smooth running of the plant, you'll be good a prioritizing workload, have a keen eye for detail, will look for and suggest improvements and be proactive in looking a preventable faults.
The role does have real scope for development, both in your personal knowledge but also in the position. The company a keen on continuous improvement and with training and opportunities for development. They run a successful apprenticeship scheme which is testament to this. There are a number of very experienced members of the team, who will at some point look at retiring, which also has the potential to open up further opportunities. Ideally you'll be someone to bring in some fresh ideas, an engineer who can think outside the box and help develop their PPM schedule which the team have openly admitted can always be improved.
You'll get the opportunity to work towards a company profit related bonus worth £500 per year, as well as having a monthly safety champion's award, which allows you to donate some money to a chosen charity.
This role is a shift based role, so please check out the rota below 37.5 hours per week.
The Shift Rota
Week 1 - 6am - 2pm Monday to Thursday and Friday 6am - 11.30am so early finish on a Friday.
Week 2 - 6pm - 2am Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 2pm - 10pm, and Friday 11.30am - 4.30pm so 2 nights, 2 afternoons and a shorter day on Friday.


The Company
An award winning global business with multiple UK based sites. This site has around 65 employees working on it, with over 40 of those in operations. The business is always investing and already has plans for new machinery installs next year, which will involve more project based engineering work that you'll be instrumental to. Last year the business spent around £35k on overtime for engineers on Saturday and Sunday's so there is a good opportunity to top up your earnings. The Candidate
You'll mechanically biased, and ideally will have some basic electrical competency, you'll have worked in a manufacturing environment, with different production lines as part of the maintenance team. Naturally this maybe, packaging, FMCG, automotive, industrial manufacturing, or food. You'll want to learn and develop, but also will bring your own new ideas, and a spark and energy about you, and will want to come in and make a difference. You'll have plenty of support for line managers and will be able to escalate issues if required. You'll get 3-6months extensive training across lines, this environment is fast paced manufacturing. You'll naturally want to take a step up to work for the leading employer in the sector. Technically you'll want to test yourself and learn new things, and will get the opportunity to line manage contractors on site and get longer term opportunities for progression in to senior engineering or leadership. You'll be strong mechanically and have some good electrical fault finding understanding. Mechanically, you're looking at repairs, fault finding and maintenance both planned and reactive on belts, bearings, motors, conveyors, shafts, pneumatics, hydraulics etc.
Qualifications
ONC/HNC/HND Mechanical qualification desirable
NVQ or C&G Mechanical or equivalent essential

Package

£30650 - 31100 salary bracket depending on experience + £3k at least in overtime, with plenty opportunity to earn more + bonus
25 days holiday + 8 days bank holiday
OT is Weekdays and Saturday and Sunday everything is time and ½ except Sundays which is 2x pay.
