Job Description

Planning and Design manager
Oxford (first few months based in Germany)
£40-£45K, plus pension, Holidays and Private Health, company car scheme, all business expenses.

The Opportunity

This is an ideal opportunity to join one of the world's leading companies. This role may suit an architect who fancies a change in role or an M&E profession who has maybe completed at least a year of an architectural course.

The Role

Our Client is offering an interesting and challenging position within the Building Group of their organisation. The supervisor for planning and design works at the interface of client's internal departments and the external designers. The design management part of the role expands across all aspects of the building depending of the type of project (civil, mechanical and electrical). It is an opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, including production facilities as well as retail stores, workshops and logistic facilities, including UK plant projects as well as retail projects in Europe. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of the front end RIBA stages A to D (or equivalent). This person will be working alongside the central department in Munich for the early planning stages and continue to support projects through implementation.

In the early stages of projects you will either lead concept and feasibility studies undertaken by external design teams or take on this work yourself. These early studies will be used in the client's internal approval process for building projects. Ideally, a rough cost estimate (e.g. square meter based) will be done.
The role includes general and commercial management of the project. Based on your knowledge and experience in the industry, you will be steering the client's external team of consultants in this area including supplier selection, tender and contract processes. Based on your knowledge of the project, you will be part of the team that decides on the procurement route. A key part of this role is to organise and structure the planning team in the most efficient manner.

As part of the client team you are responsible for delivering sustainable and innovative building designs, including an optimal concept for facility management. Your personal achievement will be measured against targets in regards to cost, and quality and schedule for the planning stages as agreed with the future user of the building.
The successful candidate will be capable to take decisions in order to meet these targets and will escalate into management as needed. Monthly reporting on the project target is also included in the role. This position is a great opportunity to work on all aspects of a building project and be key to the delivery of building solutions to suit the company's requirements.

The Candidate

The early stages of this role will be spent in Germany where you will be responsible for forming productive and supportive relationships with members of the design team. As such we are looking for candidates who are natural communicators, who are able to work independently and take a proactive role in networking with new colleagues. German speakers with the correct background and skill set are warmly welcomed to apply but this is by no means a necessity as everyone in the company communicates in English.
The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in managing the design and planning of projects though RIBA stages a-d or an equivalent programme. We are looking for candidates who are ideally degree educated in architecture or civil/structural/building engineering or equivalent qualification in this area. Candidates will ideally have an in depth technical understanding of civil, mechanical and electrical standards and have led multi-cultural teams. Candidates will ideally have experience in managing the design and planning of projects up to 25 million pounds.
