Overview:
This is a management role providing engineering support to the team responsible for the design and delivery of mechanical and electrical systems infrastructure across a national telecommunications network. You`ll play a part in the transition of new or complex infrastructure into production, monitoring the performance of the infrastructure and defining and implementing continual service improvement plans to ensure service levels and energy-efficiency is delivered and performance optimised.

The M & E function encompasses the programme to enable the provision of Power, Space & Cooling in support of IT and Business growth and support projects. It additionally generates the M & E design standards to support sustainability, energy-efficiency and reduction of carbon-footprint at technical sites. It directs the governance and compliance on all M & E matters.

Role Purpose
*To support the M & E team in order to ensure 24/7, no-break power for Voice, Broadband, TV, Business and Wholesale services.
*Defining standards and procedures for electrical safety
*Provide best-in-class technical specifications and system designs for the M&E design, planning, build, repair and maintenance requirements of mechanical, electrical and cooling equipment throughout technical buildings

*Develop, document and implement policies for the standard design, build and support of all power and cooling equipment (e.g. Supply Capacity, Standby Generators, DC Plant, UPS, Circuit Breakers, Cables, Batteries, Rack Power and Protection Regimes, AHUs, Chillers etc).

*Perform 'in life' engineering activities to ensure M & E infrastructure performance is maintained, optimised or prevented from deterioration, meeting architectural and product requirements

*Ensure the control of the design, configuration and change of the M&E network-supporting infrastructure to preserve the confidentiality, availability and integrity of the infrastructure

*Support the selection and introduction of new infrastructure, technology and suppliers, providing impact assessments and evaluation of design options and provide input to SLA definition and Support Contract production

*Provide technical leadership for new service and technology deployment working in partnership with key stakeholders to successfully transition the infrastructure into the operational environment

*Lead Monitoring and Control philosophy and implementations (Telemetry/SCADA)

*Monitor industry developments and ensuring equipment purchases align with best-practice and monitor industry trends and ensure standards match future equipment purchases and requirements

*Provide third level technical support for incident and problem management activities to identify root cause, developing improvement plans that prevent recurrence and proactively reduce the number and severity of incident. Investigate failure modes of equipment providing recommendations for improvement aligned to value criteria maximising power and cooling availability for customer-facing services.

*Define and Deliver M&E infrastructure service improvement plans to sustain or restore the required level of performance, improve efficiency or operating cost with specific input to energy-efficiency, sustainability and reduction of carbon footprint

Essential Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Essential
*Chartered Engineer Status and corporate membership of relevant institution
*Considerable experience in an M & E, Data Centre or telecommunications environment
*Degree, HNC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
*Management or Supervisory experience

Desirable
*Management or Business formal qualification
*Knowledge of data communications, networking, application, server and database technologies.
