Field engineer (PLC's)

Sheffield (Anywhere M1 Corridor).

The Role

In this role you will be required to provide automation and control systems engineering to a variety of customers based in the North of the UK and on rare occasions other parts of the UK. You will be responsible for installations, upgrades, maintenance, repair, fault finding on automation and control systems. Projects can have a focus on system integration so taking old technology and combining it with new to create a new solution. This may be upgrading PLC's, HMI, or SCADA systems to old machinery to make them more productive or efficient. The role will require you to visit clients along the M! corridor between Leeds and Derby.
You will undertake a full and complete training process including shadowing a time served company engineer you and completing a number of course. After finishing will be responsible for supervising and mentoring a number of junior engineers when called upon. The role will require you to assist with designs of new solutions in regards to customer requirements, this will include the development of software related to PLC's, HMI's, and SCADA.
Once up to speed you will be required to participate in the full lifecycle of projects the client company wishes to complete. You will be required to document all of the client's requests to enable solutions to be designed that fulfil the requirements. You will need good communication skills in this role as you will be the face of the company when visiting clients on site. You will be expected to have health & safety at the forefront of your mind at all times, and this will involve conducting risk assessments and method statements. The company offers a range of maintenance contracts in regards to their solutions and suggesting alternative equipment of maintenance plans is rewarded with further bonuses. On occasions when the operations managers are away you will be required to cover for in their absence. There is an on call Rota with this role and you will be expected to provide telephone and on site assistance 1 week in four which you will receive £180 on call allowance for + any overtime accrued.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role will be a time served control and automation engineer who wishes to join a company which actively looks for talented engineers to train and develop them further in their careers. We are looking for engineers who have practical knowledge of service engineering with Control and Automation equipment. We would very much like to talk with any engineers who undertaken system integration in any of their previous roles. Engineers with experience working with PLC's, HMI or SCADA systems would also be very warmly received. Engineers who have worked in manufacturing, recycling plants, power stations or any environments with exposure to large machinery with PLC controls and drives and motors.
Ideally you will be degree qualified/HND in electrical/electronic engineering but equivalent experience and a HNC or C&G will be fine as this is the makeup of some of the existing team. You should ideally have practical experience of the programming PLC's and/or HMI's and/or SCADA systems. You will have a good working knowledge of electrical installations standards such as a 17th edition. We are looking for engineers who are able to fault find on complex control and automation equipment. Candidates should have strong communication skills and a good awareness of H&S and ideally have a site safety certification.
Candidates should be motivated and enjoy supervising other junior engineers. You will need to be computer literate and have good Microsoft office skills.

The Package

This role comes with a salary of £30K-£33K with an on call rota payment of £180 per week. There is a significant amount of overtime attached to this role and most engineers earn £40K+. Overtime is paid after a 37.5 hour week and the rates are paid at 1 ½ Mon to Fri, 1 ½ on Sats and double time on Sundays. The role comes with a car allowance, company pension, private health, bonuses additional 5%-15% of salary, 25 days holidays + bank holidays.
