Job Description

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer (Manufacturing)

£35.5k + Excellent Pension, 25days Holiday, Optional Call out, Death in Service, Subsidized Canteen
Based: Stockport (Poynton)

Shift Pattern

Flexible 3 shift pattern Monday to Friday, mornings, afternoons and nights 6/2pm, 2/10pm and 10/6am
You also get an early finish at 2.30am on Saturday morning on your last night shift. These hours are flexible, for an hour each was, if that was your preference and would be discussed at interview.

The products they make are very customer focussed and makes a nice looking, clean and highly sought after product used by the major packaging brands around the world in a variety of sectors such as Food, Confectionary, Security, Cosmetics, Clothing, Homecare and Printed Media. This is a fast passed production environment with a proactive management team who are looking at moving towards a CI six sigma model within the business over the coming years. They manufacture products that truly make a visual difference and are sold in multiple countries worldwide. Their site is based just outside Stockport in Poynton and they have another site in Livingston, which combined have over 550 employees. On a more global scale they have 13 worldwide sites total, combining manufacturing and distribution. We are currently looking for a mechanically biased maintenance engineer due to retirement to help support their team working across many of their production facility.

The Role

The role is very hands on, were looking for a mechanically biased engineer, who will assist the team of 5 engineer and engineering manager on site. You'll cover maintenance on the production machinery on site that has some lines which operate 24/7. A lot of the production machinery is quite autonomous, and runs on a range of different PLC programmes from Omron, to Allen Bradley, Siemens S7 and Mitsubishi. Faults relating to these will be governed by the electrically biased engineers in the team, on the mechanical side were looking at pneumatics, hydraulics, rollers, bearings, shafts, motors, changeovers. You'll get great training and learn from some of the more senior engineers in the team who have worked on this equipment a number of years. You'll be able to suggest improvements projects and also help develop their proactive PPM schedule, as well as complete reactive maintenance.
Naturally like in the majority of high speed manufacturing facilities they are very hot on health and safety and proactive thinking, which they encourage everyone to do and abide by. You'll also get involved in weekly and monthly engineering projects, which are usually designed to increase reliability, efficiency or health and safety. They are already strong on TPM and 5S as a business but looking to improve more on the Six Sigma side of things. The role reports into a Six Sigma Black Belt and there may be an opportunity to progress your own qualifications in this area in the future.

The Candidate

First of all you will preferably be a maintenance engineer/technician from a fast moving manufacturing environment with a mechanical bias and some basic electrical skills. The industry is not that important, as long as it's fast moving and requires you to be hands on maintenance based environment as part of a team or even you individually. The kind of backgrounds that would be ideal would include, FMCG, packaging, print, food or equivalent. You will also harbour a desire to work for a stable company with a family feel and receive quality training and add value. You'll come with mechanical skills and ideally the certificates to prove this. You'll be competent with the basic electrical skills and will want to try and expand on your knowledge in this area. You'll be clued up on analysing technical issues with production lines and equipment and come up with new ideas, and seek to change processes and procedures within this environment.

Experience working in past paced manufacturing/production environment
Mechanical Engineer or Equivalent Qualifications

The Package

£35.5k salary
Shift:
Excellent Pension matched up to 6%
25days Holiday + 8 days bank holiday
Optional Call out £50 per weekend on call, and then 4 hours minimum pay for callouts
Overtime time ½ and double time depending on the day
