Job Description

Electrical Engineer - Technical Support (MV)
Telford
£32-34K (possibly more for the perfect candidate) + bonus up to 8% + 25 days holiday + Excellent Pension + Private health + Mon-Fri 9am-5pm

The Opportunity

A wonderful opportunity to work for a global specialist in energy management, voted on of the top 25 companies to work for worldwide. A multibillion pound company who are keen believers in safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable energy. Are you a hands on electrical engineer, who has a good grip of the technical side of your role. Are you used to working with MV 11kv - 33kv in a substation environment, on switchgear, transformers and distributions systems? Are you looking to take a Mon - Friday 9-5pm position on one site, then this role could be for you!

You'll be joining a team of 17, and will be looking to take a step away from the hands on day to day work out in the field, and become a technical expert in your field providing field support to engineers and new customer enquiries for our client who are one of the biggest OEM's in the marketplace.

The role

Your role will be to provide technical and application support to all internal and external customers. This may be to clients calling the company for advice on certain products or providing support for engineers in the field. This support will cover both a broad range of MV equipment from switchgear, to relays, transformers and electrical distribution equipment. Therefore if you have worked as a fitter, or engineer or technician and have a good technical understanding of the electrical principles on this kind of product you would be ideal. This is however not a hands on role, it's a shirt and tie office environment learning and developing your knowledge base with great internal progression chances into senior engineering and management.

You will provide technical support to customers in relation to fault finding and commissioning of their MV equipment, you'll will liaise with the product activities teams, after-sales, marketing and the call centre to resolve any new or outstanding issues. Full training is provided in this role but you will need experience with these products with which you will be supporting. The training programme is quite intense and will last for a period of at least 3 months before you are promoted into the support department. An example of someone who we placed a year ago in this role has already gone on to complete his level 4 qualification all paid for by our client and said the training is truly second to none.

This role will require you to provide the highest levels of customer care at all times and be able to communicate technical issues and solutions to non-technical individuals.
You will be required to provide Pre-sales technical support to customers on up to 33KV, this is not a sales role, but you are used in the technical capacity to explain to a customer how something works and what is possible and impossible with their request. You will monitor frequently asked questions so these can be added to a website and database.

You will speak with customers and log there requirements which will then be forwarded onto a sales department. You will be required to handle enquiries at a 2nd and 3rd line support level, so an advanced level. At times you will be required to visit client sites to further investigate client requirements and continue to build relationships.
This is ideal for someone who is looking at cutting down travel and being based in cutting edge offices with real progression opportunities in a static working environment.

The candidate

Candidates for this role will need to be educated to ideally a HNC level or above and/or have served an equivalent apprenticeship. Candidates should have some experience of MV equipment, including Switchgear, transformers and electrical distribution equipment up to 33KV or higher but if you have worked at 11kv we can still consider you.

This is important as you will need to explain and assist with problems and advice relating to these areas. Suitable candidates may have worked previously as maintenance engineers, field engineers, fitters, switchgear engineers and are now looking to move inside to a role which offers extensive development and progression.

Candidates will need to enjoy creating relationships with customers and providing support to a range of external and internal clients as well as site engineers. Candidates should be well organised with time management skills and have good all round I.T. skills, including all Microsoft packages.

The ideal candidate for this role will be someone who has very good communication and is able to speak both technically and in layman's terms depending on who it is they are providing support for, but is looking at a role where they can guarantee being home every night and travel to a single place of work in Telford.
