Job Description

Design Engineer, £30k Wantage, Oxfordshire

Up to £30k starting salary, healthcare, onsite gym, international travel, good opportunities for progression.

Your ideas and suggestions will have a real impact on the production process, in fact you will be designing it.

The Opportunity

Unique opportunity to join a progressive multi billion pound manufacturing company that specialises in the packaging industry. The company has a presence in over forty countries and has over 21,000 employees, they float on the New York Stock Exchange and have 140 manufacturing plants worldwide. They're looking for the right individual to join them in their "New Products and Processes" team in Wantage.

The Role

I was wondering what to call the role, as it can come under a number of different guises; "Development Engineer", "Design Engineer" or "AutoCad Technician" are all relevant titles so pick your favourite.

The plant in Wantage is the UK's centre for R&D, you'll be joining the Metal Packaging team alongside eight other engineers reporting into a Team Leader.

It would suit somebody who is hands on and loves to get involved in the development and designs stages. You'll be getting involved in metal forming processes that will have a direct impact on the company's production processes. The site is the UK's centre for R&D so any design improvements here will be spread UK and possible worldwide.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role will be well qualified with either a degree or HND/C in Mechanical / Manufacturing / Process Engineering / Production / Design / Automation with AutoCAD experience, preferably Solidworks. If you work as a CAD Technician for a manufacturing company in the area, you could be a great fit for the role.

You'll have exposure on AutoCAD at 3D level and will have a real interest in process improvement and a genuine passion for packaging design.

Mechanical design will be your main strength, getting involved with test rigs and modelling.

You don't have to be the finished article to apply, as there is excellent training given.

Company History

In the last 125 years, the company has grown into a strong global enterprise with operations in both established and emerging markets. They have built a diversified metal packaging technology portfolio that serves the beverage, food, personal care, household and luxury markets.

Product Portfolio:
*Aerosol Packaging
*Beverage Packaging
*Food Packaging
*Metal Closures
*Specialty Packaging

Training and Progression

The company has a 2 month on boarding programme that gives new starters the best possible start. You'll get hands on experience working with the company's actual machinery and production lines process. This will give you a thorough understanding on the company's products and processes.

There is also the opportunity to visit other manufacturing plants in different areas to see different methods of design. Richard Clarke, who has worked for the company for three years had the following to say, "It's a great company to work for, my mechanical skills have vastly improved. Upon joining I was given thorough training and even had the chance to visit a plant in Jordan."

There are good opportunities to progress into a senior development engineer role.

Package

*Salary up to £30k
*International travel opportunities
*Mon - Fri 8- 5 (37.5hr week)
*Onsite gym inc classes
*Onsite canteen
*Childcare vouchers
*Employer contribution pension
