The Opportunity
A fantastic opportunity to join a growing team within a company that turns over in excess of $8bn every year. This is an award winning Manufacturing Company founded over 100 years ago that design and produce all of their own product range. They have offices and facilities in more than 40 countries worldwide and float on the stock exchange. They are currently looking to expand their New Products and Processes Department (NPPD) with an additional Mechanical Design Development Engineer.
If you're degree educated in Mechanical Engineering and want a role where you will work on multiple projects at various different stages of their life cycle, then this could be a role for you. We're looking for someone with knowledge in the following process: taking a brief, working on design (3D CAD), liaising with clients and sponsors, agreeing deliverables, getting prototypes made, building test rigs and prototypes, testing these prototypes, designing a manufacturing process, developing tooling and then transferring to mass production.

If you have a flavour for design and are mechanically biased this is a great company to help you develop and progress long term.

The Role

In this role you will be required to design and develop the mechanical processes being the manufacturing of metal packaging products. You'll sit in a department of 7 working on multiple projects at any one time. You'll meet with customers and discuss ideas and specifications and work with the design team to design prototypes. You'll therefore be strong on 3D mechanical design preferably in solid works (but this isn't essential other CAD packages are fine). You'll then develop this prototype and consider the wider commercial viability when considering producing this on a mass scale. You'll work really closely with some of the smartest engineers worldwide in metal packaging products, and get an opportunity to travel to different worldwide sites and develop your career. You'll get ot be hands on, working with the engineers building test rigs and working with the electrical team and CNC teams to ensure PLC's and tooling is produced. You'll oversee the mechanical processes with mechanical engineers and the automation team, to turn a prototype into a full scale slick manufacturing process.

Longer term you will be keen to develop further to come up with cost cutting initiatives, process improvement and develop new manufacturing processes for the companies multiple product divisions to be used across sites worldwide.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role will be well qualified with a degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Process Engineering this can be from the UK or abroad. You'll have strong CAD experience, potentially but not essentially on the solid works package. You'll like problem solving and enjoy a mixture between hands on engineering, design and process improvement and development. You'll also potentially be keen to work abroad for up to a week at a time in the future, this would be two maybe three times per year. If you want exposure working on the full lifecycle of a project then this could be the role for you. If your business uses any type of metal forming or fabrication in their products or is a packaging company, this would be a major plus, but isn't essential. You need to be someone who wishes to join a company which actively looks to train and develop there engineers with progression long term and truly is a great place to work.

Candidates should be motivated and enjoy helping other junior engineers. You will need to have good Microsoft office skills.

Qualifications and Experience

Mechanical/Manufacturing/Engineering/Process Engineering Degree
CAD Experience (Solidworks or equivalent) this role uses both 3D and some basic 2D
3-5 years' experience working in a relevant technical role
Metal forming or fabrication experience would be great but isn't essential
Must be willing to travel to other Uk and worldwide business sites for up to a week at a time (2 or 3 times a year potentially)

The Company

The company are a globally recognised brand and one of the leaders in their fields. They float on the US stock exchange and have a presence in over 40 countries, turning over last year over $8bn, with multiple UK based sites. The company is committed to the development and training of their employees and committed to providing an exemplary level of customer service. They have an excellent work package with brilliant benefits on top of their financial package. Having visited the site myself it has a gym, huge canteen, top spec machinery and state of the art facilities. The company invests in the latest technology and are at the forefront of the newest and latest forms on electrical equipment.

The Package

The role comes with a £35 - 40k salary, Monday - Friday 37.5hours, Pension, Healthcare, Gym Classes, Occupational Health, Childcare Vouchers, 25 days holiday + 8 bank holidays.
