Mechanical Technician
Wantage (Oxford)

£30-32k, Pension, Healthcare, Occupational Health, Childcare Vouchers, Enhanced Maternity and Paternity Pay, 25 days holiday + 8 bank holidays. Mon - Friday 9-5pm.

The Role

In this role you will be required to work hands on mechanically and ideally be time served. The nature of the role involves the manufacture, testing of prototype manufacturing equipment machines in the workshop. You'll be a creator, working on anything from basic tooling production through milling and turning, to basic pneumatic and hydraulic work, rollers, bearing, shafts, motors etc. You'll work with electrical and automation engineers to bring the design together and test the machinery in the workshop and then move it out onto the manufacturing floor where you will put it into action.

The role is non shift based, simply 37.5 hours Monday - Friday, its workshop based in the companies UK HQ which is a state of the art environment to make this machinery. This client are the world leaders in the production of their packaging, and you'll form a key part in that process in your role. The role will be working as part of a team, but parts will also require you to be an autonomous individual who can follow instructions and think outside the box. Naturally it's unlikely you will have come from this industry before, so training is provided in the role.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role will be a time served mechanical engineer, you may have just finished your apprenticeship and want to move into a manufacturing environment, or may have a few more years in the industry and want to work more hands on building equipment rather than simply maintaining it. You'll be strictly mechanical in this role, and will be workshop based, you'll have experience grinding, milling and turning, but only basic tooling, we don't need fully fledged millers or turners for this position but people with the basic capability. If you enjoy putting things together, build prototype machinery, test machinery, look for mechanical improvements then this role will be a really interesting position for you.

Background wise if you have worked for a manufacturing business or a company that assemble machinery and you'll cover the mechanical part of this process. You'll have your C&G or NVQ qualification and may even have a HNC in Mechanical Engineering or similar although this is not essential.

Qualifications and Experience

Time served mechanical engineer
Mechanical engineering qualification NVQ or C&G or equivalent
Hands on mechanical engineering experience 3 years minimum
