The Opportunity

Are you looking for a new opportunity to start off 2018, within a successful global manufacturing business? Our client have an opening on their Wrexham site for an electrically biased Lead Maintenance Engineer to join the team. You'll have one direct report and will oversee the entire facility, covering machine maintenance, contractor supervision, management meetings and building maintenance.
This is a great opportunity to gain some further responsibility and long term gain the skills and move towards an Engineering Managers role. Our client are a recycling and manufacturing plant working with plastic recycling, so anyone working within a fast paced manufacturing plant, recycling plant, FMCG or automated distribution centre would be ideal. This is a global business with facilities in 47 countries and counting, and comfortably over 500 UK based employees spread over 3 sites.

The Role

The role is very hands on, were looking for an electrically biased engineer who is comfortable working autonomously but just needs some development. You'll form a team that looks after the site and you'll have a good degree of responsibility within the business.
You'll oversee plant maintenance, machine maintenance, building maintenance, oversee/source sub-contractors and attend management meetings regarding site operations. The site has been run by the Engineering Assistant currently in place for the past few months, but with upcoming projects and to get the maximum out of the department they need someone more senior to help guide and shape the department.
The site has multiple lines and processes you'll be working on electrical systems controlled by PLC's (a basic understanding of fault finding would be beneficial), conveyors, panels, motors, sensors, e-stops, rollers, and will conduct planned and reactive maintenance when required.
Mechanically the work is fairly basic, including bearings, shafts, hydraulics, pneumatics and the basics of gearboxes. The more you can cover on site the better, however if you lack a certain skill sub-contractors can be called in to carry out the work. You can also call on the senior engineering team up in Scotland for advice and guidance and if needs be they can travel down for serious issues.
You'll be encouraged to suggest improvements projects and also help develop their existing PPM schedule, the site is in need of process improvement and these project will certainly be welcomed if you can bring some new ideas. The plant for later in 2018 is to also take on an apprentice meaning the role may require you to oversee 2 direct reports before too long which again will make things easier.

The Candidate

Preferably you'll be keen to further your experience, and develop in a role where you'll be 100% hands on and constantly have things to do. You'll want to work in a decent environment, with nice people and a company with lofty ambitions and a proven track record within their sector.

You'll have worked in manufacturing, or recycling or automated distribution environment and ideally will be electrically time served. The industry is not that important it could be food, fmcg, paper, card, or logistics as long as your skillset and attitude is transferrable. The company are really good at developing individuals, creating the opportunity to put you on courses and whether this be technical or in leadership.
