The Opportunity
Our client are a SME family business that have been established for over 15 years. They turnover around £2million per year and have circa 15 members of staff across three locations in York of which one includes a metal fabrication site They are a manufacturer of high-quality winter maintenance and chemical fuel storage plant equipment and some of the company's products have become recognised as clear market leaders. Not only do they manufacture the equipment, they also offer plant hire, spare parts and product training. Their product range and customer base has grown extensively over the last number of years and they now feel that they need a General Manager to come in and take control of day to day operations and to help take the business to the next level. They key areas that need looking after are man management, operations, production and manufacturing. They are a great company but the two family directors probably and admittedly have exhausted their knowledge and skills in the above areas. They are keen to grow the business and have plenty of ideas and need someone to come in and help them push this in the right direction.

The candidate
This is a great opportunity for the likes of an agriculture machinery manager, production manager, fabrication manager, manufacturing manager, plant manager, Hire Manager, Branch Manager or someone of this level to take the step up to a General Manager role and put their stamp on a growing company. The key is man management and putting some structure in place. You will need to have been in a position similar to this before and be happy to work within a small family run environment. You are going to be full of ideas and will be able to suggest change to the directors. Your personality and fit is going to be key. This is the type of role where decisions are made over a cup of tea, not a boardroom of directors.
