Job Description

The Role: Systems Engineer (Linux)
Location: Abingdon
Salary: to £50,000

Background Information:

Are you someone that enjoys delivering highly available systems for core infrastructure and business systems? Want to work for one of the fastest growing technology companies in the country?

If so, we can offer a fast moving, small team environment that uses methodologies such as source code management with GIT, paired programming and code reviews.

They`ve made a huge amount of investment in the technical solution and this will allow you to build and grow your skills as a systems engineer as as part of a small team, you`ll have a voice and opinion, so will be able to help to shape and influence how things are going to work moving forward.

You`ll be helping to deliver reliable, and well tested systems for both internal infrastructure and business systems, and as the company are growing rapidly with expected inclusion in the Tech Track 100 for the coming year, the role will remain both challenging and exiting in scope and nature moving forward.

The systems engineer role will form part of a small team in the business delivering reliable and tested systems for internal infrastructure and business systems. As the business is growing rapidly, the exact scope of the role will change over time, and you will be flexible and able to work within an agile work environment.

An example of two of the most immediate objectives of the role will be to work within the team that is taking responsibility for the design and implementation of new physical and virtual infrastructure that meets business requirements around availability and security.

Linux administration is probably the cornerstone of the position, and as such, you`ll manage and maintain existing Linux based machines, including management of security patches, distribution upgrades, and configuration management systems/codebases

Who are you?

You`ll have hardcore Linux skills alongside some scripting (Python / Docker / Bash etc.) and networking knowledge would be good, so understanding the differences between IPv4 and Ipv6 as you`ll be working alongside the networking department to support an IPv6 rollout.

It`s a MySQL / PostgreSQL environment, so any administration or replication here would be good but in this varied role, your personality will come into play so if you are looking for a rapid growth, fluid technology environment rather than a big company / big team structure then this could be for you.

Ideally you`ll have some development of systems applications, automation tools or deployment technologies so take your pick from Python, Ruby, Chef, Puppet, Docker, Rust and VMWare.

Training will be both hands on and by way of formal accreditation and will be supported and encouraged, on an ongoing basis.
