Job Description

The Role: Software Developer
Based: Blackburn area
package: Salary to £45,000 plus pension, healthcare & other benefits

Overview:

The role is a very exciting opportunity for an individual that will be involved in several phases to gain a full and complete understanding of our software systems and then play a key role in forming the strategy to take us forward.

Phase one is all about getting a full and complete understand of all our Legacy Code that currently is in use within the business. This comprises of around 35 Delphi Applications that mainly utilises a core library of code. These applications require going through one by one, and in conjunction with our Business analysts understanding and then documenting the User Journey alongside the Technical Specification.
The role will be to form the technical side of the team to document the current code and how it relates to the user journey.

The plan is to complete this for all the applications to ensure we fully understand how each application interacts with all others. Once this is complete, the role will then set about creating a strategy for how best to move us forward from the Legacy position we are in today.

Technical Overview & Potential Background:
We are looking to recruit a software developer with in depth development skills to play a lead part on a long term project migration away from legacy system to a cutting edge software solution.

The objective would be to join the existing development team, but with the initially specific goal of gaining a clear and concise understanding of all the Legacy system and the documenting and passing to other members of the team. You`ll then play a key part in the migration to the future solution (maybe C# / .NET )systems that will be brought into place.

This is a total blank canvass so you`ll have ownership from concept to completion on the project so offers an ideal opportunity to really shape the solution moving forward.

The software based manufacturing and business systems are crucial to sustaining and building upon the commercial success of the business so they can offer an extremely interesting software development workload, together with on-going application support duties.

Required skills:

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
* In depth commercial software development
* Excellent SQL server skills
* A background in business-critical manufacturing systems/ engineering to order (Desirable not essential)
* Strong mathematical ability
* Good interpersonal and analytical skills .
* Evidence of being an effective self-starter and a good team-player.
* Full software life-cycle experience
* Strengths in requirements gathering and documentation
* Project migration experience from legacy to cutting edge a real plus
* Experience of and commitment to standards-based software quality
