The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity for an IT Support Technician has arisen within a well-known FMCG / retail company. The position of IT Support Technician allows for a technical all-rounder to join the tight knit team to both maintain and help improve their existing system.

The Role

The IT Support Technician will be brought in to provide support to both internal and remote users for the everyday faults and enquiries in both the offices and retail stores. This is a Microsoft bias role and as part of the small IT department you`ll be skilled in Windows Server , Exchange, Active Directory, SQL Server and have good all round exposure to TCP/IP based networks.
We are not looking for an expert in all of these areas, but you will need to be able to demonstrate commercial exposure to solid 2nd line level in the above.
In addition, if you have supported multi-site EPOS systems or have worked with AS/400, it would be a strong advantage but is certainly not essential as the Microsoft infrastructure background combined with networking would be key.

Duties and Responsibilities;
*Technical support for a 400 strong company. This will be consistently around 2nd line level but you`ll support the technical IT manager with more detailed issues and project migrations.
*The management and maintenance of the existing EPOS software and hardware equipment for 170 tills in over 60 retail outlets in the Northwest - this will involve both remote, and on-site support when required.
*The upkeep of the existing Microsoft Servers and back-up solutions.
*The supervision and maintenance for the VPN infrastructure.
*To oversee internal telephony system (Siemens Openscape), Wifi Network (Enterasys), Blackberry infrastructure, Payroll System, Time and Attendance, AV, Firewall and Web filtering systems.
*Development and general running of the AS400 system.
*In addition to the standard working hours. The IT Support Technician will also be on call 1 weekend in every 3.

The Candidate

We are looking for a responsible candidate with a 'can-do' attitude who is able to work both alone and as part of a team. Somebody with good attention to detail who is able to communicate well and provide support on a wide range of equipment and software. If you don't know a technology, you`ll be keen to learn and will have the aptitude to pick up new technical skills quickly.

Preferable skills required;
*Windows Server Experience (2003, 2008, 2012).
*Active-Directory, Group Policies, NTFS Permissions networking technologies, switches, routers, VPN.
*MS SQL Server 2008.
*Microsoft Exchange 2010.
*Remote working (VPN technologies, Remote Desktop).
*Virtualisation Technologies (preferably VMWare but Hyper-V would be fine)
*Cisco ASA.
*AS400.
*VMWare.
*Cognos or similar MI technology such as Qlikview, Crystal Reports or SSRS.

Paying up to £25k depending on skills and experience.
