Job Description

The Role: Software Engineer (Linux / Python 3)
Location: Abingdon
6 month contract +
Day rate Circa £400 - 500 per day (LTD)

We could easily tell you how we need positive people with a 'can do' attitude who work well in a team... But doesn't everyone say that? I'll cut to the chase on this one.

What we're looking for is a Software Engineer who lives, breathes and dreams technology, code and standards. You'll be comfortable working in multiple languages across technical disciplines. You'll be working for one of the fastest growing technology companies in the country.

We can offer a fast moving, agile, small team environment that uses methodologies such as source code management with GIT, paired programming and code reviews. You'll be working on short, snappy projects and we need to recruit a thinker, rather than a robotic style developer / engineer.

You`ll be helping to deliver reliable, and well tested systems for both internal infrastructure and business systems, and as the company are growing rapidly with expected inclusion in the Tech Track 100 for the coming year, the role will remain both challenging and exiting in scope and nature moving forward.

The Software Engineer role will form part of a small team in the business delivering reliable and tested systems for internal infrastructure and business systems. As the business is growing rapidly, the exact scope of the role will change over the duration of the contract and as such, you should be well suited to working in a in a flexible / agile work environment.

An example of two of the most immediate objectives of the role will be to work within the team that is taking responsibility for the design and implementation of new physical and virtual infrastructure that meets business requirements around availability and security.

Linux administration is probably the cornerstone of the position, and as such, you`ll manage and maintain existing Linux based machines, including management of security patches, distribution upgrades, and configuration management systems/codebases

All we ask from you is that you love what you do and what you can do includes;

*Linux (CentOS/RHEL preferred)
*Python 3 or similar languages
*Development of complex software systems compromising multiple components and making use of object-orientated programming paradigms
*PostgreSQL
*Networking principles, technologies and protocols such as IPv4/v6, DHCP and DNS
*Git

You might also have experience in the following;

*C/C++/GO/Rust or a similar low-level language
*PostgreSQL database design
*Cassandra or similar distributed/NoSQL databases
*PostGIS and pgRouting tools, or equivalent libraries (GDAL/CGAL) or tools for geospatial data analysis and geometry processing
*HTTP and RESTful API development, or similar RPC development involving distributed systems
*Microservice development, including the use of Docker/Kubernetes

It`s a MySQL / PostgreSQL environment, so any administration or replication here would be good but in this varied role, your personality will come into play so if you are looking for a rapid growth, fluid technology environment rather than a big company / big team structure then this could be for you.
