Opportunity
We are looking for a Data Centre Technician to carry out work in a datacentre for a large financial Institution client on a long term rolling basis. Candidates will have to go through clearance checks both financial and Criminal record checks, so can't have CCJ or Bankruptcy history. CRB Disclosure Scotland check is carried out and must have a traceable 10 year history of employment including references for this period.

The role
The Data Centre Technician will

*Assist in the day to day running of a corporate data centre,
*Work in 12 hour shifts on days and nights on a rota averaging 12 shifts per month.
*Plan and prioritise work activities towards achieving agreed business aims.
*Plan and manage work activities to ensure all is carried out is a safe manner in accordance with the company health and safety policy and work instructions.
*Use company tools and systems, and update relevant information held in these systems.
*Record, analyse, report and administer according to systems and requirements.
*Communicate, liaise and negotiate internally and externally using appropriate methods to facilitate the completion of technically correct and sustainable installations.
*Attend training and develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills.
*Carry out self-checking of site quality and compliance.
*To carry out any reasonable tasks as requested from time to time by Management.
*Comply with Health, Safety and Environmental aspects of the job, function and location, ensuring consistency with company policy and statutory obligations.
*Work under and follow strict change guidelines

The Candidate
The ideal Data Centre Technician will be:

*Able to patch from Excel based patching schedules, including fault finding and issue resolution.
*Computer literate using MS Word, MS Excel and databases.
*Use of ticket/change software such as Remedy.
*Knowledge of various wiring configurations and terminations
*Understanding of network hardware and/or cabling standards including RS232 / RS485 terminations.
*Ability to use a Fluke DSX/DTX cable tester for new infrastructure testing and fault finding.
*Ability to manage own time efficiently when solo working, for instance on a night shift.
*Ability to take responsibility for responding to internal priority changes in a prompt and timely manner.
*Demonstrate good communication skills with employees, contractors, suppliers and customers.
*Possess current Driving License.
*Experience of interpreting rack diagrams and installing hardware appropriately.
*Experience of installing power supplies into racks.
*Ability to connect via laptop to computer and network hardware for basic fault finding and guided configuration.
*Experience of moving both empty and full equipment racks in a safe manner.

The ideal Data Centre Technician will work for our client who are on the forefront of network infrastructure design, installation and support services. This particular contract is working in a datacentre for a large well known financial Institute.
