Contracts Manager (Civils, Utilities, Network Build)

Once upon a time there was a company who wanted to ensure everyone in the UK had access to high speed broadband.€‹ The company slowly grew into a leading player around the telecoms & utilities infrastructure sector and utilised a large workforce of civil's professionals to play a part in building one of the fastest FTTH and FTTC networks in the UK.€‹

What could the company do?€‹

They needed to find a brave and strong commercial contracts manager to carry out KPI's reporting and ensure that the resource required by a number of significant contracts was adequately serviced by the supply chain function and then look into ways of improving performance both inside the business and through subcontract partners.€‹

Story telling aside the company we represent has a very large order book based on the build and delivery of an ultra fast fibre network in addition to a multi million pound relationship with one of the countries largest telecoms service providers. This order book needs to be delivered and is forecasting increasingly high demand of its services.€‹ This is a really important and progressive role within a company that continues to grow and outperform its rivals.€‹

Reporting into the Head of Operations for business & civils, you, the new contract manager will take charge of all, procurement, cost control, subcontractor management and contract negotiations.€‹

Responsibilities

Your key responsibility will be to become a respected and trusted member of the delivery team.€‹
Supported by the head of operations you will be responsible for:
*Ensuring the negotiated contracts and jobs are completed within required timescales maintaining compliance with all quality and safety requirements.
*To ensure that adequate resource and skills are deployed by the supply chain to execute the required programme of work.
*Manage the supply chain, and direct operational teams, to rectify any persistent poor performance or non-compliance.
*Work with SHEQ & Delivery Managers to ensure all works on public highway are completed in accordance with NRSWA code of practice
*Assist & lead in identifying and sourcing subcontractor/€‹material suppliers, and then negotiating the best possible terms for the business.€‹

Working alongside the team to help ensure that all of the subcontractors have the necessary materials to complete the tasks requested of them, and monitoring their performance through KPI reporting.€‹ You will monitor the weekly and monthly cost of the resource and the materials they use to ensure waste is minimal.€‹ You will monitor the levels of labour on site and deal with any disputes relating to contract issues and delivery of projects.€‹

You are a methodical thinker, who is driven and looking to join a dynamic team of people, where you will make a real difference to the team.€‹ Your strengths are your communication skills and your ability to influence others.€‹ .€‹ You will have been involved with procurement, cost control, contract management and subcontractor management.€‹

We hope you are a contracts manager from a Civils build, network build, utilities or telecoms in the ground background with ideally with some basic CDM knowledge.€‹ Maybe you have previously worked in and around QS or be chartered by any of the following bodies RICS, CIOB, ICES.€‹

Degree educated great!

Or just real solid exposure to the industry even better!

You will have a real solid understanding of how contracts are put together, the problems that can occur and how they are prevented.€‹ You will have a keen eye for detail, be good with numbers, and always be trying to negotiate the best possible terms of business.€‹ Comfortable on site in an office, or speaking with a technician or a director.€‹
