Based in St Helens

The Role
We are seeking to appoint a talented and committed 2nd/ 3rd Line IT Support Engineer to provide support and technical assistance for circa 300 users both internal and external. We need a strong support technician who is confident and can work alone without issues. The environment is a busy recruitment company who are going through phase of growth, so we need someone who is used to a fast paced environment. You will have the support of a 1st line engineer to sort the lower level issues leaving you to get stuck into the 2nd and 3rd line issues, but on occasion we would expect you to help clear any first line back log. You will report into Steve the IT Manager who will also help and support you within the role. This is a position for someone who enjoys problem solving, getting their hands on lots of different technology and is a techie in every sense of the word.

Responsibilities
The 2nd/ 3rd Line IT Support Engineer responsible for:

*Provide technical support to all customers
*Respond and resolve all system issues reported by either telephone or email in an effective timely manner
*Monitor and maintain network and security systems
*Ensure tickets are escalated to the correct level in the ticketing system
*Ensure backups are all in place and have been successful
*Support LANs, WANs, VPN networks and internet systems
*Support new Branch setups/moves which will involve some travel within the UK
*Ensure that all available resources are used to troubleshoot & resolve system issues
*Actively mitigate system issues by planning and performing best practice housekeeping and maintenance tasks
*Monitor system performance and ensure all is working properly
*Install/upgrade software
*Day-to-day: reset passwords, create new users, disable user accounts, monitor servers etc.
*Maintain network and system security
*Manage configuration and maintenance of hardware
*Switch technology
*Firewall and Direct Access Server

The Candidate
The ideal 2nd/ 3rd Line IT Support Engineer will have experience with;

*Windows 2008 R2 / 2012 R2 Server (SP2), Windows 7 / 8
*Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Services) and Distributed File Services (DFS)
*Exchange 2013 and SQL 2005/2008 R2
*Windows Server Update Services and deployment (WSUS) (WDS)
*Experience with multi-domain Active Directory implementations
*Good knowledge of Active Directory GPO deployment and configuration
*Endpoint anti-virus and anti-spam
