The Opportunity:

This is a fantastic opportunity for a strategy based IT Manager (Manufacturing, Linux, Unix) to come into an experienced IT department of 5 reports and take ownership for IT systems across the business, implement new ideas and manage the IT for around 100 users in the organisation. The IT Manager (Manufacturing, Linux, Unix) role is for an established and continually growing multi-million pound manufacturing company that is committed to the growth and development of its employees.

The Role:

The IT Manager (Manufacturing, Linux, Unix)is a strategy based people manager that has a strong insight and knowledge of open source technologies (e.g. Linux + Unix). You will lead a team of five IT personnel and the ownership of IT systems across the business with approximately 100 users.

The main functions of this role are:

- To ensure that the IT Department provides a cost effective and pro-active IT service across the businesses sites (currently 2 sites, with the majority of users being based in West Brom)
- To provide leadership, project management and vision for the department.
- To ensure that projects undertaken by the department are aligned with the business goals and needs of the company
- To continue to actively promote open source software for application within the company
- To manage the continuing development of the in-house information management systems
- To maintain and further the development of our IT infrastructure

for the IT Manager (Manufacturing, Linux, Unix) role, the businesses in-house information systems are built upon an Intersystems Caché/MUMPS RDBMS, and although exposure to this environment would be advantageous it is by no means essential.

The company runes a tightly integrated system encompassing elements of CRM and ERP, stock control, LIMS and various other elements, this database has at its heart the businesses financial system, such that a general understanding of corporate accounting systems in essential.

You are expected to be the champion of corporate IT security and to take the lead on data protection legislation and compliance.
